Dead Cute. That’s the tagline for the Tina Lilienthal jewellery brand. And it describes the philosophy of its creator. “My background is a conceptual artist and I began creating jewellery as a way of expressing ideas about art and the relationship it has to the body,” says Tina. “My jewellery is about self expression. And [...]

And I'm also the author of The Odyssey Guide to Seychelles travel book and I've worked as a radio producer and broadcaster.Expressions des Bijoux
Expressions des Bijoux is the creation of founder and curator, Rosita Heshmati, who has spent many years discovering jewellery designers in tucked away corners around Europe and the Mediterranean. In the Veneto area of Italy, Rosita was captivated by the brilliance of local artisans who were re-inventing the Venetian tradition of fashioning Murano, the world’s [...]
Deci-licious
Decï London (pronounced Dessy) is a new jewellery designer brand named after its founder Dessy Tsolova that is quickly gaining a reputation for beautifully crafted jewellery with a distinctive and timeless style. Inspirations for Decï London jewellery designs are from Dessy’s own cultural heritage growing up in Bulgaria, where she was inspired by art and design from the [...]
Asian influences at the Vicenza show
Vicenza in January is a good show to visit to get a feeling of how the global jewellery industry is faring at the start of a new year. And despite the gold price and the Euro crisis, the show felt pretty upbeat. It was certainly busy – mainly with Italian buyers. But the most interesting [...]
The future of retail looks 3D to me
Yesterday I went to visit the offices of Holition in London to discover more about the 3D software, described as augmented reality, and its application for retail jewellers. Now I’m not an IT geek by any stretch of the imagination, but I was blown away by the creativity and the possibilities that this software can [...]
I’m not fluffy – just emotional
Marketing is not ‘fluffy stuff’ that is somehow less important than the day to day practicalities of running a business. It is absolutely essential for the success of any business that involves selling goods or services – and especially for non-essential luxury products like watches and jewellery. But somehow work that involves marketing and PR [...]
Shamballa: the next bead craze?
Tresor Paris is a brand being talked about with some excitement by retailers who have seen some excellent sell-through since launching it in their shops. I went to have a look at the product last week to see what all the excitement is about. Tresor Paris, set up by Hasbani in Hatton Garden, is [...]
Why we need to support Pandora
Speaking at the CMJ Show this weekend, CMJ CEO Willie Hamilton spoke to the retail members of the UK’s biggest Buying Group about the hottest topic on everyone’s lips at the moment: Pandora. Willie Hamilton may have been the first person in the UK to hear about the profit warning, share price fall (and resulting [...]
Ringing the changes
You wouldn’t think that there are many variations of the traditional wedding ring. But new technologies combined with new styles have led to much greater customer choice. Diamond set wedding rings are proving to be more popular in the UK along with more unusual variations with coloured precious stones. And laser technology means wedding rings [...]
Gold with soul
I have interviewed Gurhan several times over the years, and always walk away from our encounters with a new sense of this extraordinary man’s passion for creating one-of-a-kind pieces of jewellery. His individual hand-hammered pieces and his collections both have a strong sense of history and yet remain resolutely contemporary. Originally from Istanbul, that melting [...]
